The current administration has made no secret of their commitment to enforcing the Fair Housing Act and has, in fact, expanded some protections without creating new protected classes or formally amending the definitions of some existing ones.

These changes, often in response to new judicial interpretations have led to increased oversight by HUD and DOJ. HUD has distributed tens of millions of dollars to Fair Housing advocacy groups who are actively engaged in a greater degree of scrutiny than we’ve seen in a while.

All of this means we must be on our game – and that includes looking at the “usual” fair housing issues with new eyes and making certain everyone who interacts with residents and prospects is trained and managed to ensure compliance! We’ll look at the ten most common Fair Housing faux pas and how to minimize the possibility of being named in a complaint or Federal lawsuit. Remember, most fair housing complaints are the result of ignorance, and the remedy is training!
